Home » Membership for Pilots
If you’re already a pilot, you know the difference between “having access to an airplane” and feeling like you belong somewhere. Michiana Air Activities (MAA) is a pilot-owned flying club based in Elkhart, Indiana, built for people who want to fly regularly, stay sharp, and enjoy the freedom that aviation brings. We’re a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a community-first mindset and a safety-focused culture. This isn’t a place where you’re just a name on a schedule—MAA is a club you can plug into, contribute to, and grow with. If you’re looking for a local group of pilots who take flying seriously but don’t take themselves too seriously, you’ll fit right in.
Every MAA member is a partial owner of the club aircraft, and that shared ownership shows up in how we care for the airplanes and how we support one another. The aircraft aren’t treated like rentals—they’re treated like assets we’re proud of, because they are. Ownership also creates consistency: consistent expectations, consistent support, and a sense that you’re flying within a system designed by pilots for pilots. It’s a better experience than “pay and go,” especially if you’re flying enough to want routine, familiarity, and confidence in what you’re stepping into. The result is simple: more flying, less friction, and a stronger connection to the fleet.
MAA is built around safety and continuing education, because good pilots never stop learning. We value proficiency, thoughtful decision-making, and a “do it right” approach to flight planning and operations. Whether you want to polish instrument skills, improve your decision-making, or just stay consistently proficient, you’ll find a club that supports that mindset. Members share knowledge, help each other stay sharp, and keep standards high—without making it stiff or intimidating. You bring your experience, and the club helps you keep building on it.
Our fleet is designed to support the kinds of flying pilots actually want to do—from local proficiency flights to serious cross-country trips, from efficient two-person travel to family-and-baggage missions. You can choose the airplane that fits the day instead of trying to force every flight into the same box. That flexibility means you don’t outgrow the club as your flying evolves. Whether your mission is “get some time in,” “take a weekend trip,” or “bring the family,” MAA is built to support it. And because the fleet is part of the club’s shared pride, it’s backed by a community that cares about keeping things reliable and ready.
The best clubs aren’t just about airplanes—they’re about people. Our meetings are open to family members and prospective members because aviation is better when the people around you are included. Some members are highly involved and love being part of the social side; others keep it simple and focus on flying—but everyone is welcome. You’ll find a group of pilots who enjoy the freedom that flying gives, and who value a positive, respectful community around it. If you want to see whether it feels like home, come to a meeting, meet the members, and get a sense of the culture firsthand.
MAA runs because members care, and because we have clear opportunities for pilots to contribute. As a 501(c)(3), we’re member-driven, and you can choose your level of involvement—volunteer roles, committees, and even Board positions if you want to help lead. If you like building strong organizations, you’ll have room to make a real impact. If you’d rather keep it simple, that’s respected too. Either way, you’re joining a club that’s built to last because it’s built by the members.
If you’re a pilot in or around Elkhart and you’re looking for a club to call home, the easiest next step is to meet us in person. Attend a meeting, bring your questions, and get to know the people behind the airplanes. You’ll quickly learn what kind of club this is—and whether it’s the right fit for your flying goals. We’re happy to walk you through how membership works, what the fleet supports, and how to get started. The best way to find your aviation home is to step into the room and see if it feels like one.
