The Redbird TD1 is an FAA-approved Basic Aviation Training Device (BATD), allowing pilots to log qualifying time toward currency and certain training requirements — particularly for instrument flying.
It is typically configured with a Garmin G1000 flight deck and GFC 700 autopilot, and can be quickly switched to a traditional six-pack “steam gauge” panel with a King KAP 150 autopilot, giving members flexibility to train in the environment that best matches their aircraft or goals.
With a comprehensive North American airport database, pilots can rehearse procedures at unfamiliar airports before a trip, making it an ideal tool for realistic instrument briefings and scenario practice.
Because the simulator can position you just outside the initial approach fix, it’s possible to complete six approaches and a hold in about an hour — enough to meet IFR currency requirements. Incorporating regular sessions, whether monthly or shorter proficiency runs, helps pilots stay not only current, but confident and sharp.
